AD&D – 1st Edition

-339The brilliant arcanist Karsus attempts to steal the power of the goddess of magic Mystryl and ascend to godhood in an event later known as Karsus’s Folly. Arcane magic temporarily ceases to function, which nullifies the mythallars of Netheril and causes nearly all the enclaves to come crashing down to the surface of Toril.
-255The elves of Nikerymath, in response to the aggression of the psionic nation of Jhaamdath, summon a giant tidal wave that destroys all twelve “Cities of the Sword.”
-135Impil Mirandor founds “Impil’s Tor” on top on an abandoned dwarven delve; this site would later become Lyrabar, capital of the nation of Impiltur
527The city-state of Hlondeth is attacked by an army of kobolds, but they are routed by an army of snakes released when House Extaminos makes a dark pact with a serpentine god. House Extaminos spends the following centuries controlling Hlondeth, cultivating a devotion to Sseth in his guise as Varae, and interbreeding with Yuan-ti.
1097King Imphras the Great is crowned as the first king of re-founded Impiltur.
In celebration, the shield dwarves of nearby Earthfast gift King Imphras a copper dragon egg. Korvicros “the Indulgent” is born the next year, eventually being loaned to the new Royal Bank and Trust. (Campaign Chapter 9)

AD&D – 2nd Edition

1358The Time of Troubles begin, a period during which the deities of Faerûn are forced to walk the earth in their mortal avatar forms. Several major deities die during the Time of Troubles and a handful of mortals rise to divinity.
More significantly, Ao destroys the Tablets of Fate, unraveling the laws of Realmspace and beginning the chaotic period of time known as the Era of Upheaval.
Thirteenth day of the eighth month: Torm, demigod and patron deity of paladins, is annihilated by Bane with his dying breath. He is later resurrected by Ao because he died fulfilling the obligations of his portfolio.
13??Torm’s Order of the Shining Blade is established. Torm’s portfolio now currently reflects duty, loyalty, truth, righteousness, and obedience; and these are reflected in the stars in the Order’s emblem (with truth being centered and largest).
1370Medusanna of Hlondeth hatches a plot to weaken Dediana Extaminos. Knowing that Dediana’s son Dmetrio is the head of the Cult of the Dragon in Hlondeth, Medusanna allows evidence of this fact to be discovered. She hopes the unfolding events will further poison a courtship Dmetrio has with a nearby Sespech noble lady, but her plan does not come to fruition.

3rd Edition

1371The famed lich Vecna escapes his prison on the Demiplane of Dread and challenges the Lady of Pain in her palace in Sigil. The consequences of his actions ripple across both the structure and the function of all of superspace.
1373The events of the House of Serpents trilogy occur about this year.A new High Herald Silver Stag, Ilvarthaele Everstone, a former scribe and loremaster of Tsurlagol by the name of Ilvarthaele Everstone established her office at the Stormspire, in Songhal’s central district.
1374Rose Keep is established by the Red Wizards of Thay in Veltalar, Aglarond. One of its ruling wizards, Dhenna, gives birth to a daughter, Tharna.
1375Szass Tam recalls all Red Wizards to Thay for aid in the War of the Zulkirs, the lich’s bid for power

4th Edition

1385Mystra’s assassination at the hands of Cyric and Shar invokes the “Spellplague.” It continues for a decade, leading to the Wailing Years, during which arcane magic ceases to function and the planet of Toril is transformed.
When Mystra is destroyed, the Weave comes undone and a great many demons are let loose upon the nation’s countryside.
Finally, rifts open in the Underdark beneath the Sea of Fallen Stars, causing the level of water to drop, cutting many ports off from their livelihood and creating the Underchasm.
Due to events among the gods, Torm becomes the leader of the “Triad” of good-aligned gods, joined by Ilmater and Bahamut.
1386The Impiltur city of Songhal is besieged by plaguechanged monsters; fully half of the population dies in its defense. Ilvarthaele Everstone, the Herald of the town, makes a pact with a new god (known only as the Nameless) to return the deceased to a form of unlife. The residents of Songhal settle into their strange new routine, banning all magic and sealing the city off from the rest of the world. (Campaign Chapter 5)
At about this time, Granny Gertrude parts ways with the two other hags of her coven, who are last seen in the vicinity of Songhal. (Campaign Chapter 5)
1395By this date, the majority of the effects of the Spellplague have come to an end and most arcane magic had returned to a semblance of normality, with a handful of major changes to the way spells are cast.
1396The events of the novel Key of Stars take place here.
1420Dhenna Shavres of Rose Keep is approached by deep scion of the aboleth, who seeks the creation of a set of very precise “Living Keys.” (Campaign Chapter 8)
1422The first of Dhenna Shavres’ “Living Keys” is manufactured. It ends up in the hands of a cultist from a monastery near Coventry (in the pass between the Earthfast and Earthspur mountains). (Campaign Chapter 8)
The cultist successfully summons a devil to rain vengeance on those he feel slighted him. The fiend is only held at bay (and only temporarily) by the sacrifice of one Father Nicholas. (Campaign Chapter 4)
1429Kalarel Shavres, son to Tharna and grandson to Dhenna, is born. (Campaign Chapter 8)
1448The last iteration of the 27 “Living Keys” is completed. (Campaign Chapter 8)
1449 Tharna Shavres becomes head of Rose Keep upon the death of her mother Dhenna.
1474Tharna Shavres adds two companions to help her govern Rose Keep: Dorim Craigcatcher (a dwarf) and Vanargen the astronomer (a human male). She also seeks out an heir from the nearby city of Veltalar.
1475-1476Tharna Shavres, realizing the dangers of the nearby contiguous planes, creates a “Safe Room Protocol” for Rose Keep. (Campaign Chapter 8)
1477Pilgrims seeking Spellscars deep in the Yuirwood forest report finding a new temple, where none had sat previously. The Zhentarim (with aid from the Red Wizards) send a group of adventurers to investigate. They are never heard from again. (Campaign Chapter 6)

5th Edition

1480The Spellplague ends with the event known as Mystra’s Return. The Weave is resurrected with the goddess, and magic becomes what it was before the Spellplague, though some areas with lingering effects from it remain.
With the Weave’s return, Torm’s portfolio now more accurately reflects duty, loyalty, truth, righteousness, and law.
1484Lord Ao begins the Second Sundering, as a way to restore the worlds of Toril and Abeir of the ravages of both the Spellplague and the Era of Upheaval.Salma succeeds her mother as the main shareholder of Rose Keep, on her eighteenth birthday. Tharna lives until the next year. (Campaign Chapter 8)
1485The events of the module Out of the Abyss occur here.
1486The “Great Rain” causes the waters to rise around the Sea of Fallen Stars, consuming much land, but it stopped by the end of the year.
1487The Second Sundering ends with the full return of Mystra and the Weave, the separation of the worlds Abeir and Toril, and the final dissolution of the Spellplague.

1505An undersea quake in the Sea of Fallen Stars pulls a village of kuo-toa down into the Underdark, to a body of water they name Lake Roolileh. They are quickly enslaved by the nearby duergar of Khern Moldur. (Campaign Chapter 7)
1511A “witch” near the town of Bayn o’Boon (in the Gray Forest of Impiltur) is lynched by a group of ruffian children. Her soul does not rest easy. (Campaign Chapter 1)

Our Campaign Begins

1521A harvest festival at the small town of Bayn o’Boon quickly turns sour. Passing adventurers who help quell this disaster are invited to apply for the Order. (Campaign Chapters 1-2)
1522Students at the Shining Blade Training Academy work in secret to preserve their holiday passes; later, they are inadvertently dragged to hell and must battle a devil for legal rights to a mountain village. (Campaign Chapters 3-4)
1523“Pigeon Squad” begins making its name for itself in Torm’s Order of the Shining Blade. The events of Act I and some of Act II occur here. (Campaign Chapters 5-9)
1524The agents react to events that threaten the sovereign state of Impiltur. The events of Act II occur here. (Campaign Chapters 10-12)
